Daily Devotional: Psalms 37:35-40
Ps 37:35-40
35 I have seen a wicked and ruthless man flourishing like a green tree in its native soil, 36 but he soon passed away and was no more; though I looked for him, he could not be found. 37 Consider the blameless, observe the upright; there is a future for the man of peace. 38 But all sinners will be destroyed; the future of the wicked will be cut off. 39 The salvation of the righteous comes from the LORD; he is their stronghold in time of trouble. 40 The LORD helps them and delivers them; he delivers them from the wicked and saves them, because they take refuge in him.
Rev 1:12-18
12 I turned around to see the voice that was speaking to me. And when I turned I saw seven golden lampstands, 13 and among the lampstands was someone "like a son of man," dressed in a robe reaching down to his feet and with a golden sash around his chest. 14 His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire. 15 His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of rushing waters. 16 In his right hand he held seven stars, and out of his mouth came a sharp double-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance. 17 When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: "Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. 18 I am the Living one; I was dead, and behold I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.
Jesus said he holds the keys to life, death and the hereafter. He made all things and by his power all things are sustained. All authority has been given to him, in heaven and on earth as he reigns over his kingdom. There is no ruler on earth; now, in the past or in the future that has or will have power without permission from heaven. Nothing that happens is beyond his notice or concern.
We are citizens in his kingdom. He is our Lord. We are children in the family of God and Jesus is our older brother. His family is built on love and concern because God is love. Jesus has shown his love by being obedient to the Father, giving his life for us and now interceding on our behalf, even now in heaven.
O God, Father of light and life, I come to you today in humility but with assurance that you will hear me as your child. I know that on my own, I don’t deserve to be your child or to approach your holy throne. So, it is in the name of Jesus my Savior, my redeemer and my Lord that I come to you and give you my cares, my worries, my requests and petitions. But Lord, I come with a heart of thanksgiving for this opportunity and for all the blessings beyond number that you have given me. Give me wisdom. Give me a pure heart. Fill me with your love, compassion and the ability to forgive others. Use me to lead someone to you.
