Daily Devotional: Psalms 40:13-17
Ps 40:13-17
13 Be pleased, O LORD, to save me; O LORD, come quickly to help me. 14 May all who seek to take my life be put to shame and confusion; may all who desire my ruin be turned back in disgrace. 15 May those who say to me, "Aha! Aha!" be appalled at their own shame. 16 But may all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; may those who love your salvation always say, "The LORD be exalted!" 17 Yet I am poor and needy; may the Lord think of me. You are my help and my deliverer; O my God, do not delay.
Phil 4:4-6
4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
There are times in our lives that we can open our hearts to the Lord and as we talk with him, we can, by faith, hold his hand and feel his very presence as he walks with us. While we do not see him with the physical eye, we know he is beside us, always with us. While it is always comforting to mentally know he is with us, it is these times that assure us beyond doubt of his presence. As we open our hearts, he speaks to our minds with words of comfort and peace that build us up and give us strength to carry on. Rejoice! The Lord is near.
We may face problems beyond our ability to bear, or temptations that seem to overwhelm us, or we may be treated unfairly by those who would harm us, but we have a Savior who understands and has overcome. No matter what we face in life, he “has been there and done that.” None of us will face the scorn or trials he suffered on our behalf and few have suffered the pain he endured for us.
The least we can do is serve him. We serve him as we live by his will in every part of our lives. Serving God is being a godly father or mother. It is being a faithful employee or kind neighbor. It is shown in moral purity, compassion and mercy for the unfortunate, kindness to those who are unkind and love for all.
Heavenly Father, I know you have given your completed revelation in your word, but I am so thankful that you have not forgotten me or left me alone. I need you every hour of every day in my life. I know you have promised to come closer to me when I seek to be closer to you, so give me constant and unwavering faith to trust you in all things. Give me a kind, compassionate and caring heart and the ability to show your love to all around me. Thank you for loving me and forgiving me when I don’t deserve any good thing from you. I pray in the name of Jesus.
