Daily Devotional: Psalms 53:1-6

Ps 53:1-6

1 The fool says in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, and their ways are vile; there is no one who does good. 2 God looks down from heaven on the sons of men to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God. 3 Everyone has turned away, they have together become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one. 4 Will the evildoers never learn--those who devour my people as men eat bread and who do not call on God? 5 There they were, overwhelmed with dread, where there was nothing to dread. God scattered the bones of those who attacked you; you put them to shame, for God despised them. 6 Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion! When God restores the fortunes of his people, let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad!

1 Peter 1:8-9

8 Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, 9 for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

What a blessing to know our God by knowing Jesus Christ. When Thomas saw Jesus and put his hand in the nail prints, he declared: “My Lord and my God!” To which Jesus replied that he had seen him and believed but more blessed are the ones who believe without ever seeing him. You and I have not seen him, but we love him and believe in him so that we might reach our goal, salvation.

Every shred of logical evidence points to intelligent design of the universe. There is nothing more absurd than a theory saying nothing came from nothing and eventually evolved into our complex universe with all the living and non-living things that make it up. The heavenly bodies, many of which have never been seen or discovered by humans, move in their courses with exact preciseness. Even though computer experts have tried for years, the human brain cannot be duplicated with all the intricate connections and functions. The complexities and abilities of our eyes serve as the goal of every optical scientist as they seek to design modern optics. The fool says in his heart, "There is no God."

My Lord and my God! You are my creator and I give you all praise. It is with a humble heart that I come to you, recognizing that I deserve nothing good from you. Yet, in your wisdom and your mercy, you have devised and prepared a way for me to be counted righteous and to live with you in eternity. Keep me from ever denying you by my actions but to always bring you honor and glory. Thank you for loving me. Lord, there are so many of my friends and people I know that are faced with sickness, with grief, with trials and pain in their lives. I ask your healing, your peace and your wisdom for each one. I pray in the name of Jesus.
