Daily Devotional: Psalms 60:6-12

Ps 60:6-12

6 God has spoken from his sanctuary: "In triumph I will parcel out Shechem

and measure off the Valley of Succoth. 7 Gilead is mine, and Manasseh is mine; Ephraim is my helmet, Judah my scepter. 8 Moab is my washbasin, upon Edom I toss my sandal; over Philistia I shout in triumph." 9 Who will bring me to the fortified city? Who will lead me to Edom? 10 Is it not you, O God, you who have rejected us and no longer go out with our armies? 11 Give us aid against the enemy, for the help of man is worthless. 12 With God we will gain the victory, and he will trample down our enemies.

Rom 8:26-28

26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will. 28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

When by faith we are buried with Christ in baptism, we have put him on and our sins are washed away. Thus, Paul begins Romans chapter eight by saying “there is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” That means all of our sins have been forgiven! Later in this same chapter he says that since God has done this for us by allowing his Son to die in our place, for our sins, there is nothing he will not do for us now. He also promises that God will work all things for the good of those who love him and are his called children.

Our battle is not a physical battle but against the spiritual forces of wickedness and darkness. He has supplied us with everything we need to fight the devil and to overcome. Sure, we fail at times and give in to temptations, but the Lord has promised to forgive us as we walk in his light. We can overcome because we are more than conquerors through him who loves us. When Jesus was raised from the grave, he overcame the fear of death and destroyed the power of the devil. The same power that raised him will give life and power to us today.

Heavenly Father, what a blessing to be your child and to be forgiven of all the sins I have ever committed against you! What a joy to be able to live in peace with you and therefore, in peace with myself! Thank you for loving me enough to make this possible and for revealing your way of redemption in our gospel. I realize that I have not fully attained my eternal home and that I still can leave you, so I ask you to give me wisdom and power to be faithful. Lord be with those who are suffering and give them your comfort and peace. I pray in the name of Jesus.
