Daily Devotional: Psalms 63:6-11

Ps 63:6-11

6 On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night. 7 Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. 8 My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me. 9 They who seek my life will be destroyed; they will go down to the depths of the earth. 10 They will be given over to the sword and become food for jackals. 11 But the king will rejoice in God; all who swear by God's name will praise him, while the mouths of liars will be silenced.

Rom 5:9-11

9 Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God's wrath through him! 10 For if, when we were God's enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! 11 Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.

Our hope and our trust are in God. We rejoice in him because of his love for us and what he has done for us in Jesus Christ. Jesus is our Savior, he is our Lord and he is our King. But as great as he is, as the supreme authority both in heaven and in earth, he is our brother and our friend. Jesus identifies with us, with our trials and with our troubles because he has lived here on earth as one of us.

It is easy for us to see that Jesus came to save the world. He is head of his church and is king over all his people. It is not always easy for us to accept that Jesus is my personal Savior and that he came to die for the sins that I personally have committed against God. It is easier to accept him to take away our past than to allow him to rule our present and our future. It takes real trust to turn our lives over to God and to Jesus and allow them to control us today.

Paul says we either live for the flesh and ourselves or we live in the Spirit and in Jesus Christ. We either let our own desires rule us and our lives or we let the will of the Father become our will and let his desires rule over us. We can be religious and still not be serving God. True worship must be in spirit and in truth, that is from the depths of our heart and soul, committed to Jesus as our LORD.

Heavenly Father, thank you for Jesus, for his love for you and his love for me. It is with humility that I accept your forgiveness in him and the opportunity to be your child. Help me be more committed to you and to Jesus as I open my heart to allow your Spirit to live in me and change me to be more like you. Keep me from being selfish so I will help others in whatever way I have opportunity to do so. I ask your blessings on those taking treatments, those facing surgeries, those who are sick and those who have lost their loved ones. I pray in the name of Jesus.
