Daily Devotional: Psalms 66:1-7
Ps 66:1-7
Shout with joy to God, all the earth! 2 Sing the glory of his name; make his praise glorious! 3 Say to God, "How awesome are your deeds! So great is your power that your enemies cringe before you. 4 All the earth bows down to you; they sing praise to you, they sing praise to your name." Selah 5 Come and see what God has done, how awesome his works in man's behalf! 6 He turned the sea into dry land, they passed through the waters on foot--come, let us rejoice in him. 7 He rules forever by his power; his eyes watch the nations--let not the rebellious rise up against him. Phil 1:3, 9-11
3 I thank my God every time I remember you. 9 And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, 10 so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, 11 filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ-to the glory and praise of God.
Who is this God that we serve? He is great and awesome in power, he is supreme in wisdom and is abundant in love! It is he who has made all things in the earth and the heavens above. He clothes the flowers with beauty and he provides food for the animals all around us. At his bidding the sun rises each day and the stars shine at night. His power is seen in the storms that rage and in the mighty waves of the ocean. But his power is joined by his wisdom as each wave comes roaring in but stops at the beach. This is the God who made us and sustains us.
In his power and majesty, he loves each of us. He knows your name and mine and he knows every trial we face each day. He feels the pain in our hearts and rejoices with us in our accomplishments and victories of life. But his love goes far beyond this world and all that we see and know.
He loves us so much that he has devised a way for us to live with him in eternity by giving his Son to die for our sin. It is a part of his nature that he is holy and cannot tolerate or ignore sin but must punish it with death. So out of his great love, he has given his Son, Jesus Christ, to die in our place, for our sin.
Thank you, O God, for your abundant love shown to me every day in more ways than I can possibly know or understand. I thank you for the forgiveness you have extended to me in Jesus. Thank you for the many fellow Christian brothers and sisters who do so much to encourage me. Give me a heart of love and compassion and use me to comfort and encourage others around me. Use me to reach the lost with your gospel. Help all your people to want to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace and truly love each other. I pray in the name of Jesus.
