Daily Devotional: Psalms 66:16-20
Ps 66:16-20
16 Come and listen, all you who fear God; let me tell you what he has done for me. 17 I cried out to him with my mouth; his praise was on my tongue. 18 If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened; 19 but God has surely listened and heard my voice in prayer. 20 Praise be to God, who has not rejected my prayer or withheld his love from me!
2 Tim 2:19-21
19 Nevertheless, God's solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: "The Lord knows those who are his," and, "Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness." 20 In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for noble purposes and some for ignoble. 21 If a man cleanses himself from the latter, he will be an instrument for noble purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work.
God hears and answers our prayers. At times it may not seem this is so but that is because we don’t see things from his perspective. His answer may at times be like the loyal family dog that won’t allow the child to get into the road. The child does not see the danger and gets frustrated or even angry because the dog keeps pushing it back or keeps getting in the way and blocking his path, when in reality it is protecting it from the dangers of traffic. God knows best.
At times we must be made ready for doing or having greater things in our lives than we ever imagined. But being made ready takes time and we don’t like to wait. The athlete must get in shape physically while at the same time they must be learning and honing the skills of the sport in which they want to participate. It does not happen overnight. It takes time to be ready for competition. Life is like this many times and God knows what we are able to face and how ready we are to use what we think we want now. In fact, at times it takes repeated defeat for us to learn the lessons of life that are necessary for us to compete and win in the games of life. So, what may seem like God is ignoring us is in fact, God getting us ready for greater things than we thought possible. God knows best.
Heavenly Father, I am so thankful that you love me and that you always know what is best for me. When I pray, I often think I know what I need or when I need it but in my foolish ignorance, I am wrong. Please protect me and prepare me and use me to do your will. Give me patience to let your work in me be competed, in your time and in your way. I ask your blessings on your church. Help us reach the lost and strengthen those who are weak. Help me open my heart and my life to be available to do your bidding. I humbly pray in the name of Jesus my Lord.
