Daily Devotional: Psalms 68:15-20
Ps 68:15-20
15 The mountains of Bashan are majestic mountains; rugged are the mountains of Bashan. 16 Why gaze in envy, O rugged mountains, at the mountain where God chooses to reign, where the LORD himself will dwell forever? 17 The chariots of God are tens of thousands and thousands of thousands; the Lord has come from Sinai into his sanctuary. 18 When you ascended on high, you led captives in your train; you received gifts from men, even from the rebellious--that you, O LORD God, might dwell there. 19 Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens. Selah 20 Our God is a God who saves; from the Sovereign LORD comes escape from death.
Eph 4:7-8, 14-16
7 But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it. 8 This is why it says: "When he ascended on high, he led captives in his train and gave gifts to men." 14 Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming. 15 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ. 16 From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.
God uses each of us to do our part. Some parts are more public than others and some carry more recognition, but all are important to his work. Apollos was a mighty speaker but did not understand the truth of Jesus Christ. It was a lady by the name of Pricilla and her husband who took him aside and “taught him the way of the Lord more perfectly.” A small deed but mighty in what it helped to accomplish in the work of the Lord. Many godly mothers have raised children who have become preachers or elders who go on and do big things for God.
The body of Christ, his church, is built up in love when each part (that is you and me) does its work. It may be helping some elderly person or simply encouraging some young person to be faithful by making them feel important. We don’t have to be preachers or teachers, we just each do what God has assigned us to do.
Heavenly Father, thank you for the abilities you have given me. Keep me from ever becoming jealous of what others are given and instead, help me use what I have to your glory. Help me remember that I don’t have to receive recognition or praise from other people because you know everything I do for you. Use me to speak a kind word today to encourage someone who is hurting or struggling. Let me always show the love of Jesus to others in the things I say and the way I say them. I ask your special blessings on those who are taking treatments and those who are grieving the loss of those they love. I pray in the name of Jesus.
