Daily Devotional: Psalms 70:1-5
Ps 70:1-5
1 Hasten, O God, to save me; O LORD, come quickly to help me. 2 May those who seek my life be put to shame and confusion; may all who desire my ruin be turned back in disgrace. 3 May those who say to me, "Aha! Aha!" turn back because of their shame. 4 But may all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; may those who love your salvation always say, "Let God be exalted!" 5 Yet I am poor and needy; come quickly to me, O God. You are my help and my deliverer; O LORD, do not delay.
Acts 4:29-31
29 Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness. 30 Stretch out your hand to heal and perform miraculous signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus." 31 After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.
A friend of mine told me that they had no problem turning all of their troubles over to the Lord. Their problem was trying not to take them all back, so that by the end of the day, they had them all back on their own shoulders. I think most of us can identify with this. We get up in the morning, read our Bibles and spend some time in prayer with a determination that this will be the day that we do everything right with a pure heart. But before the day is over we have done or said things that we wish had never happened. We started out with no worries or cares on us because we gave them all to the Lord but soon we feel the weight of them on us all over again. What is wrong? Why do we do this?
It is easy to say that this is just a lack of faith or a lack of commitment. While this is true to some degree, it is also true that part of the problem is that we are still human, we do make mistakes and we do give in to temptations. This should not be an excuse to quit trying for perfection but a realization that keeps us from giving up on our quest to be like Jesus. No matter what trial or temptation we face, we can depend on God to give us wisdom and strength to overcome.
Lord God, I praise you and thank you for your steadfastness, your patience with me and your great love that allows your grace to forgive me when I fail. Give me greater wisdom to know what to say or do but also to know when to keep my mouth shut or to do nothing. Give me strength to overcome every trial and more faith so I will trust you in all things. Be with the leaders of our country and give them the recognition that you are still in control. I ask your blessings on those who are being persecuted for their faith in Jesus. Help each of us speak your word with boldness and grace with love. I pray in the name of Jesus my Lord.
