Daily Devotional: Psalms 72:15-20
Ps 72:15-20
15 Long may he live! May gold from Sheba be given him. May people ever pray for him and bless him all day long. 16 Let grain abound throughout the land; on the tops of the hills may it sway. Let its fruit flourish like Lebanon; let it thrive like the grass of the field. 17 May his name endure forever; may it continue as long as the sun. All nations will be blessed through him, and they will call him blessed. 18 Praise be to the LORD God, the God of Israel, who alone does marvelous deeds. 19 Praise be to his glorious name forever; may the whole earth be filled with his glory. Amen and Amen. 20 This concludes the prayers of David son of Jesse.
Eph 6:18-20
18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints. 19 Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.
If David needed the prayers of others and Paul needed the prayers of the saints in the places he preached, how much more do I need your prayers today! But Paul says we are to pray for each other also; for all the saints. We often think of prayer as an emergency exit or as a special lift when life is hard, but prayer is to be a way of life for us as God’s children. Many who are reading this I do not know, but I lift you up in my prayers that God will bless you as you live for him today.
There are many things we are told to pray about. As we look at the life of Jesus and read some of his prayers or as we study the writings of Paul and read many of his prayers, we see things about which we should pray. We are to pray that the gospel will find honest hearts and the kingdom of God will be spread and souls will be saved from destruction. We pray for wisdom to live to glorify the Lord.
We pray for peace among God’s people. We pray for a heart of love for ourselves and for others who seek to serve the Lord. Satan would have us divide in spirit so that we complain and find fault with each other. He would have us judging one another so that we are filled with self-righteousness and hatred. Pray for peace.
Thank you Lord for the wisdom that you give from above which is first pure and then peaceable, showing forth your fruit of righteousness. Help me remember I am right with you only because you have forgiven me in the blood of Jesus. Use me to bring others to you and to encourage all who seek to serve you. I offer a special prayer for each one who reads this that we will have a heart of love and be forgiving toward others. Give your healing to those who are sick when it is your will and give your peace and assurance when healing is not in their future. Thank you for loving me and filling my life with Christian friends. In Jesus name.
