Daily Devotional: Psalms 77:16-20

Ps 77:16-20

16 The waters saw you, O God, the waters saw you and writhed; the very depths were convulsed. 17 The clouds poured down water, the skies resounded with thunder; your arrows flashed back and forth. 18 Your thunder was heard in the whirlwind, your lightning lit up the world; the earth trembled and quaked. 19 Your path led through the sea, your way through the mighty waters, though your footprints were not seen. 20 You led your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.

1 Peter 1:3-6

3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade-kept in heaven for you, 5 who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. 6 In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials.

There has never been any lack of evidence of the existence of God. The creation of all things is undeniable proof of his wisdom and his power. The great flood was evidence that he is in control of all things. The way in which he delivered Israel from Egypt and their bondage showed the whole world that he alone is God. He parted the waters of the Red Sea, fed the millions of people for over forty years, gave them water to drink and made their clothes last the entire generation.

Even though they were not warriors or equipped for war, the strongest of their enemies were unable to harm them in their travels. At the time of their arrival to the Promised Land of Canaan, all the kings and their people were so afraid it says their hearts were like wax because of the greatness of the God of Israel.

He is still in control and sees his people. He knows our needs and is willing to do whatever it takes to supply them to us. God is love and therefore he is gracious and merciful. By his infinite wisdom he has given his Son to provide a way for us to have our sins forgiven so we can be counted righteous before him.

Heavenly Father, thank you for your tremendous love shown to me in giving your Son to die for my sin. Open my eyes to understand your revealed word and both a desire and wisdom to apply it in my life. Fill me with your Spirit so I will be made into your likeness more each day. Draw me closer to you as I see you in every part of your creation; your power, your wisdom and your majesty. Thank you for those in my life who encourage me. Use me to help them and others. Be with those who face persecution for your name’s sake. I pray in the name of Jesus.
