Daily Devotional: Psalms 78:65-72

Ps 78:65-72
65 Then the Lord awoke as from sleep, as a man wakes from the stupor of wine. 66 He beat back his enemies; he put them to everlasting shame. 67 Then he rejected the tents of Joseph, he did not choose the tribe of Ephraim; 68 but he chose the tribe of Judah, Mount Zion, which he loved. 69 He built his sanctuary like the heights, like the earth that he established forever. 70 He chose David his servant and took him from the sheep pens; 71 from tending the sheep he brought him to be the shepherd of his people Jacob, of Israel his inheritance. 72 And David shepherded them with integrity of heart; with skillful hands he led them.

Rom 8:26-27
26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will.

What a joy and blessing to be able to serve a God who loves us, knows what is best for us in every situation of life and then is able to accomplish it for us! His will may not fit our thinking at times. His timing may not make sense to us. But when we trust him, he will never make a mistake or lead us in a wrong way.

Our God always has an open door with an ear ready to listen. We can pour our hearts out to him when we are distressed or sad. We can explode to him with our joy and accomplishments. He loves to hear our thanksgiving and praise. Whatever is on our hearts, he is ready to listen and respond to us. When we don’t know how to express our feelings, he even gives his Spirit to take our bungled thoughts and present them to the one who is on the throne. What a wonderful God!

God’s plan from eternity was for our eternal salvation. He began to carry it out through Abraham and then used Moses. Even though it often looked like it was not going to work, he even used people who were rebellious and wicked. David was a part of God’s plan for us and then eventually it was fulfilled in the coming of the Messiah, Jesus, the Christ. God has now made it possible for all mankind to have eternal life through Jesus, by faith and humble obedience to the gospel.

Our Father in heaven, I am so thankful that you love me and make it possible for me to have eternal life with you and with Jesus your Son. I cannot grasp the glory and beauty of heaven or the true meaning of eternity but by faith, I believe you and long for the day when it becomes reality. Give me enough faith to open my heart to the daily bidding of your Spirit so I can become more like you. Help me follow the example of Jesus in humility, in love, patience, kindness, compassion and forgiveness. Use me to encourage those who are seeking to live for you and to teach your truth in all things. I humbly pray in the name of Jesus.
