Daily Devotional: Psalms 84:8-12
Ps. 84:8-12
8 Hear my prayer, O LORD God Almighty; listen to me, O God of Jacob. Selah 9 Look upon our shield, O God; look with favor on your anointed one. 10 Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked. 11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless. 12 O LORD Almighty blessed is the man who trusts in you.
Phil. 4:4-7
4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
When we serve God with the attitude described in these verses, it is a joy and a wonderful experience. It is a privilege to be able to come before the God of all heaven and earth. When we serve him with gratitude, we find peace in our hearts that the world cannot understand. We can live in him and know that he is living in us through his Spirit. When his love is perfected in us we live without any fear.
Far too many feel that serving God takes away our joy and all the fun in life. The fact is that by serving him we actually eliminate many of the problems the world faces on a daily basis. Many years ago, we had some friends over who were not Christians, to eat and play some games. The next day he told me that he didn’t know one could have such a good time and still remember it the next day.
While living in Jesus may not give us all of the worldly pleasures, it does give us an abundant life, both now and in eternity. Paul said that all the pleasures of this world are not worthy to be compared with the glory of heaven. Moses turned his back on all that went with being royalty in Egypt to be recognized with the slaves called Hebrews, but his reward far exceeded what he so freely gave away.
Lord God of all the earth, I am so thankful for the opportunity of being called your child. Thank you for the parents and so many others you put in my life who taught me your ways. Give me a heart that is set on serving you. As your Spirit lives in me, mold me into your likeness and help me form habits that help me live for you in every way. Help me be compassionate and forgiving toward others and not be condemning or condescending. Fill me with your love so all who know me will see Jesus. Make my life about you and never about me so that you receive all the glory and honor. I pray in the name of Jesus, my Savior and my Lord.
