Daily Devotional: Psalms 89:9-13
Ps. 89:9-13
9 You rule over the surging sea; when its waves mount up, you still them. 10 You crushed Rahab like one of the slain; with your strong arm you scattered your enemies. 11 The heavens are yours, and yours also the earth; you founded the world and all that is in it. 12 You created the north and the south; Tabor and Hermon sing for joy at your name. 13 Your arm is endued with power; your hand is strong, your right hand exalted.
Rom. 4:19-25
20 Yet [Abraham] did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, 21 being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised. 22 This is why "it was credited to him as righteousness." 23 The words "it was credited to him" were written not for him alone, 24 but also for us, to whom God will credit righteousness-for us who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead.
We serve a God who is all mighty, all powerful. He spoke and all we know as our physical earth and universe came into existence. Once again, he spoke and the world was flooded with water until even the highest mountains were covered and all breathing things died. He has sent disease and pestilence on people (both nations and individuals) but has also given healing and health. The world and all that is in it are his and under his control. There is nothing God cannot do.
It is this great power that raised Jesus from the dead and brought him out of his tomb. With this same might, he has promised to raise our bodies at the end of this age and bring us to his glory. But while we live here on earth, he uses his power to protect us and to deliver us from evil. Because he loves and cares for us, he guards our circumstances and does not allow us to be tempted with more than we can handle. And along with every temptation, he gives us a way out.
When life gets hard, we must trust him more. When life is easy and things are going our way, we must not forget that he is the one who has made it easy for us and has given us all we enjoy and ability to accomplish what we have done. It is only by his grace that we are what we are and who we are today.
Heavenly Father you are the only God over all things and all things are under your control. I know that nothing escapes your notice or is hidden from you. While I do not understand a lot of things that happen around me, I trust you to take care of it all and do what is best for your children. Give me patience to wait on you to act in your own time and in your own way. Increase my faith and give me self-control to let your will for me be my own will. Thank you for loving me and providing a way for my sins to be forgiven in Jesus. With thanksgiving I pray in his name.
