Daily Devotional: Psalms 96:7-13

Ps. 96:7-13

7 Ascribe to the LORD, O families of nations, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. 8 Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; bring an offering and come into his courts. 9 Worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness; tremble before him, all the earth. 10 Say among the nations, "The LORD reigns." The world is firmly established, it cannot be moved; he will judge the peoples with equity. 11 Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let the sea resound, and all that is in it; 12 let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them. Then all the trees of the forest will sing for joy; 13 they will sing before the LORD, for he comes, he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples in his truth.

Col. 2:1-4

2 My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, 3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. 4 I tell you this so that no one may deceive you by fine-sounding arguments.

Try to place yourself as one of the eternal spiritual beings. They have seen how God created the earth and all we see and know, along with mankind. But they also saw how this perfect world was made imperfect with the curse because of the sin of Adam and Eve. As the ages rolled past, they saw the constant conflict between God and the devil, along with their respective followers.

They heard the many promises and prophecies of God and how he was going to bless and ultimately save his people. But they could not understand how this was going to take place. What they did see was that when it seemed that Satan had the upper hand, God would always win. They saw God but did not understand.

The LORD is God and he reigns in both heaven and earth. All things are under his control. Jesus said that all authority had been given to him by the Father so he is now the King of kings and LORD of lords. Jesus is the answer to the mystery of the ages and the means by which God fulfills his prophesies and promises to us.

Heavenly Father it is with great gratitude that I approach a new year with all of the new opportunities to grow spiritually and to be closer to you. Open my eyes to see each of them. Keep me from being selfish. Take away my love of money and things here on earth. Give me a pure heart, filled with your love and a desire to become more like you every day. As I look back over the last year it is easy to see so many ways that I have failed you and need your forgiveness and your help. Use me as a blessing to others and to your cause in Christ. In his name I pray.
