Daily Devotional: Psalms 103:7-12
Ps. 103:7-12
7 He made known his ways to Moses, his deeds to the people of Israel: 8 The LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. 9 He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; 10 he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. 11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; 12 as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.
2 Cor. 5:20-21
20 We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God. 21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
God is gracious, kind and compassionate because God is love. Because this is his nature, he wants all of us to be forgiven and to live with him in eternity. Because he is truth, holy and just he cannot just overlook sin as though it never happened but rather sin must be punished. The wages of sin is death so all of us deserve to die (to be eternally separated from God) because all of us have sinned.
But God sent his Son to this earth to redeem us from our sin. Jesus lived as one of us in every way, but without sin. Then because of his great love, he took the guilt of our sin upon himself and allowed that cruel mob to condemn him to death. He was then hung on the cross between two criminals, where the justice of God was met in his death so we can be made the righteousness of God in him.
Because Jesus completed his mission here and obeyed his Father in all things, God raised him from the dead to return to his heavenly home where he is now seated at the right hand of God. He died to sin, once for all so that we might live for him now and with him eternally as we accept his gospel in obedient faith.
“He does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.”
Heavenly Father, I am forever thankful that you have made it possible for me to have my sins forgiven, even though I do not deserve any good thing from you. It is with humility that I even come to you in prayer and open my heart to you but also with boldness because I come to you as your child, forgiven by your grace. Give me a pure heart and give me wisdom to live all day, every day in your favor. Use me to glorify your name as I allow your Spirit to mold me in your likeness. Please give your peace to those who are grieving. I pray in the name of Jesus.
