Daily Devotional: Psalms 105:1-7
Ps. 105:1-7
1 Give thanks to the LORD, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done. 2 Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts. 3 Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice. 4 Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always. 5 Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced, 6 O descendants of Abraham his servant, O sons of Jacob, his chosen ones. 7 He is the LORD our God; his judgments are in all the earth.
Eph. 5:18-20
18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit. 19 Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
As we go through this Psalm, we will see how God provided for the descendants of Abraham and eventually turned them into a nation of his own. His provisions saw no limits; being both physical and spiritual in nature. He provided them with food and water while not allowing their clothes and shoes to wear out in their journey. He gave them a law to live by that could not have been any better. His law is right and just in every way, both from a civil and religious standpoint.
What a wonderful opportunity we are given to be able to praise the Lord our God and to rejoice in his salvation. True worship must be from the heart and genuine in nature. Praise that is acceptable to God is based on our trust in him and our devotion to serving him. It must not be just “lip service” but a recognition of our total dependence on him in every way. Praise the Lord for he is good!
Serving God is not just about us (you or me) and what we want but is about God and what he wants. Serving Jesus as our Lord is not about how good it makes me feel but about making him happy. What so many fail to realize is that in giving up self and putting God first in our hearts and lives does indeed give us joy. The most fulfilled and the happiest life is found in total service to Jesus Christ as Lord.
Heavenly Father, I am so thankful that you have made it possible for me to be your child and have the opportunity to come to you in prayer. I recognize your greatness, your majesty and your glory are above my mind to comprehend. Thank you for loving me. Use me to serve you in whatever way you know is best for me. Be with those who are sick and suffering and give them your peace and healing as it fits your plan. Use me to encourage others to not give up in their quest of being like you now and eventually being with you in heaven. Convict the leaders of our nation that they will seek your wisdom. I pray in the name of Jesus.
