Daily Devotional: Psalms 106:7-12
Ps 106:7-12
7 When our fathers were in Egypt, they gave no thought to your miracles; they did not remember your many kindnesses, and they rebelled by the sea, the Red Sea. 8 Yet he saved them for his name's sake, to make his mighty power known. 9 He rebuked the Red Sea, and it dried up; he led them through the depths as through a desert. 10 He saved them from the hand of the foe; from the hand of the enemy he redeemed them. 11 The waters covered their adversaries; not one of them survived. 12 Then they believed his promises and sang his praise.
1 Cor 10:11-13
11 These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the fulfillment of the ages has come. 12 So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don't fall! 13 No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.
God has prepared a place called hell. It is a special place that he has prepared for the devil and his angels. These spiritual beings, living in a realm that we cannot see, have rebelled against God and his authority. Since they know that their time is short and they will be assigned to this punishment, it is their goal to deceive as many people as possible and take them away from the God of love.
Without God none of us would exist. Without God we would not know love or the effects of love because God is love. We would all be as the wild animals who exist to survive and to procreate. We would live for our own pleasure, to the hurt of others around us. In fact, it is the lack of God’s love in the hearts of people that all of the sin in the world, which leads to all of the pain and troubles in the world, exists today. It is God in his nature who teaches us love and forgiveness.
Imagine a place without God or any of his influence for good. A place that is totally dominated by Satan and his evil spirits, without any of the restraints of God as we see today. A place where all of the wicked of all the ages are together at one time, and this is hell. But heaven is prepared for those in Christ Jesus.
Heavenly Father as I think of heaven it is hard for me to realize the beauty of heaven and just how wonderful it will be as I am given a glorified body and am able to see and know you in all your glory. At the same time, it is hard to grasp the horrors of hell and being eternally separated from you and your goodness. Give me wisdom to learn from the many examples you have given in your word so I will be faithful to you in all things. Help me to hate sin and to learn from my past. Use me to help others reach heaven too. I pray in the name of Jesus my Savior.
