Daily Devotional: Psalms 106:41-48
Ps 106:41-48
41 He handed them over to the nations, and their foes ruled over them. 42 Their enemies oppressed them and subjected them to their power. 43 Many times he delivered them, but they were bent on rebellion and they wasted away in their sin. 44 But he took note of their distress when he heard their cry; 45 for their sake he remembered his covenant and out of his great love he relented. 46 He caused them to be pitied by all who held them captive. 47 Save us, O LORD our God, and gather us from the nations, that we may give thanks to your holy name and glory in your praise. 48 Praise be to the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Let all the people say, "Amen!" Praise the LORD.
Eph 2:4-5
4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions-it is by grace you have been saved.
In Romans Paul said that “God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” John records in his first epistle: “This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.”
Recently a young man who is considering become a preacher was talking with me and he asked what my favorite subject was to preach about. I am not sure that I had ever consciously considered this before but without hesitation I responded with “the grace of God.” Without his grace there is no hope for any of us, and his grace is founded upon and comes from his love for all of mankind.
The love of God is beyond what we can understand. God does not just love us as we love others. His love is unconditional. His love is unchangeable. God is love and all love in this world comes from him. Without God we would not know love or know how to love. He loves us so much he gave his Son to die for our sin.
But he did this so we can live for him and not live for ourselves. Jesus said that if we love him we will keep his commandments. Paul said that we are saved by God’s grace so that we can live a life of good works and bring glory to God.
Heavenly Father I am so thankful for your great love and your marvelous grace shown to me in Jesus Christ. Fill me with your Spirit so I can love you and love others as you love me. As I learn your love and realize your forgiveness, give me a loving and forgiving heart toward others, even my enemies. Help me learn to love unconditionally, freely and completely. Help me follow the example of Jesus and learn to trust and obey you in all things. I pray in his holy name.
