Daily Devotional: Psalms 108:1-6
Ps 108:1-6
1 My heart is steadfast, O God; I will sing and make music with all my soul. 2 Awake, harp and lyre! I will awaken the dawn. 3 I will praise you, O LORD, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples. 4 For great is your love, higher than the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies. 5 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens, and let your glory be over all the earth. 6 Save us and help us with your right hand, that those you love may be delivered.
Rom 15:13-14
13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. 14 I myself am convinced, my brothers, that you yourselves are full of goodness, complete in knowledge and competent to instruct one another.
God is faithful. That means that whatever God has said he will do, will be done in his time and in the way he sees best for us. It also means that what he tells us to do (or not do) is to be done on our part, even when we don’t understand why or how it can possibly work. In his infinite wisdom he always knows what is best.
When we accept that God is faithful, it requires us to trust him. This is why Paul says we are to turn all of our cares and requests over to God with thanksgiving, yes, thanksgiving even before we see his reply. We can truly live our lives without being anxious about anything. Now I know that is easier said than done. But when we believe that God is in control of anything and everything in our lives and that he loves us so much he let this Son die for us and he always knows best, we can trust him to fill our every need and take care of our greatest problems.
As David fled for his life from Saul for those years, he would often confess boldly his faith in God and the assurance that he would take care of him. But at times he also wondered out loud how long this was going to go on. Even in these times when it seemed he might die, he declared that God would keep his word and do what was best for Israel and for him. David realized that he existed for God and his people, not the other way around. We are here to honor God.
Heavenly Father, when I succeed in life help me always give you the glory but when I fail, help me accept the responsibility and to realize that things will happen when you are ready. Give me wisdom to know what is best in every part of my life and to have the initiative to do what needs to be done. Also give me patience to wait on you when I don’t see the results. Lord be with your people. Protect those who face danger and persecution on a daily basis for their faith. Give each of us strength to be faithful when we face trials and temptations and when we begin to doubt. Use me to help others live for you. I pray in the name of Jesus.
