Daily Devotional: Psalms 111:6-10
Ps 111:6-10
6 He has shown his people the power of his works, giving them the lands of other nations. 7 The works of his hands are faithful and just; all his precepts are trustworthy. 8 They are steadfast for ever and ever, done in faithfulness and uprightness. 9 He provided redemption for his people; he ordained his covenant forever--holy and awesome is his name. 10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise.
2 Cor 1:21-22
21 Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, 22 set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.
One of the reasons that God allowed the descendants of Jacob to become slaves in the land of Egypt was so he could deliver them. They were a large family when they moved to the land of Goshen but over the years, they became a nation. All of this was to fulfil the promises made to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob that God would bless them and make them a nation so great they would be like the stars in the sky or the sand on the seashore. In all this, his plan unfolded over the years.
God used good people, immoral people, ruthless people and all in between to carry out his plan. To the human observer, it seemed more chaos than plan. How could Joseph being sold as a teenager by his brothers to be made a slave be the plan of God? We could see no reason to add insult to injury and cause this young man to be falsely accused and be sent to prison. Why would God allow a famine to strike the known world and impoverish so many people?
When we fear the Lord, we begin to see his wisdom and therefore, we seek to follow his will. Fear is often defined as respect. While it includes respect, it is being afraid of the power, the wisdom and the majesty of God because he is GOD. He made us and all we both see and know. Every time God appeared in any form to anyone and they realized who it was, they fell on their face and were afraid they would die. God has delivered us from the slavery of sin and we owe him all.
Heavenly Father give me a pure heart, a heart devoted to serving you. Give me pure lips so that all I say is wholesome and useful to build up others. Open my eyes to see you working in my life and give me wisdom to follow your directions, even when I don’t understand how or why. Help me grasp the full impact of being saved from sin and its consequences and in response to praise you. Give your wisdom to the leaders of our country so we can continue to have peace and the freedoms we enjoy. Be with your church. I pray in the name of Jesus.
