Ps 119:25-32 Daleth
25 I am laid low in the dust; preserve my life according to your word. 26 I recounted my ways and you answered me; teach me your decrees. 27 Let me understand the teaching of your precepts; then I will meditate on your wonders. 28 My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to your word. 29 Keep me from deceitful ways; be gracious to me through your law. 30 I have chosen the way of truth; I have set my heart on your laws. 31 I hold fast to your statutes, O LORD; do not let me be put to shame. 32 I run in the path of your commands, for you have set my heart free.
James 2:12-13
12 Speak and act as those who are going to be judged by the law that gives freedom, 13 because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment!
Serving Christ and following his will gives us freedom. We have freedom from the guilt of our past sins. In him and because of his sacrifice we have been forgiven of every sin we have ever committed. As his love is perfected in us and we continue to walk in his light, he continues to forgive our sins. So we can go to bed every night with the assurance that there is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. We have been set free from the law of sin and death.
We are also set free from the slavery of sin. Paul said that we are slaves to the one we serve, either to sin or to righteousness. Since we have been made the righteousness of God in Christ, we are free from sin and slaves to righteousness.
Being a slave to righteousness is freedom because we serve Christ willingly and knowing that he is working for our good. Even though we give up the pleasures of sin for a short time here on earth, we are receiving the eternal crown of glory that far exceeds anything this world has to offer. But even now we can enjoy the daily fellowship of Jesus and that of many brothers and sisters in him. By following him we avoid so many dangers and sorrows that sin brings on us. In Christ we have a peace that the world longs to know but cannot, apart from God. We are free!
Heavenly Father keep me from ever using my freedom in Christ as a license to sin by my selfishness or my egotism. Make me a servant even as Jesus became one on my behalf. Lord, there are so many who are serving you and teaching your word in places that are difficult and even threatening to their lives. Please be with them, keep them safe and give them courage to be faithful. Be with all of your people that we may love you enough to follow your will. Use me in my world to share your gospel with others. I ask your blessings on those who are sick, taking treatments and getting over surgeries. I pray in the name of Jesus my Lord.
