Daily Devotional: Psalms 123:1-4
Ps 123:1-4
1 I lift up my eyes to you, to you whose throne is in heaven. 2 As the eyes of slaves look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maid look to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the LORD our God, till he shows us his mercy. 3 Have mercy on us, O LORD, have mercy on us, for we have endured much contempt. 4 We have endured much ridicule from the proud, much contempt from the arrogant.
2 Tim 2:1-7
1 You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2 And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others. 3 Endure hardship with us like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4 No one serving as a soldier gets involved in civilian affairs-he wants to please his commanding officer. 5 Similarly, if anyone competes as an athlete, he does not receive the victor's crown unless he competes according to the rules. 6 The hardworking farmer should be the first to receive a share of the crops. 7 Reflect on what I am saying, for the Lord will give you insight into all this.
How many times have we heard someone say we should put our trust in God? But what does that really mean in terms of our lives? We believe that God exist and that he created our world and the entire universe. We believe that Jesus is the Son of God and came to this world to live and then died for our sins. We have been taught these things since childhood and we believe them to be true.
But trusting God is much more than this. This is the kind of belief that James says the devils have; but who thinks this kind of faith is really trust. The faith, belief, trust we are to have in God and in Jesus as the Son of God is to place our lives, our very dependence on them to control us, provide our needs in the way that is best for us and then take care if us in eternity. This faith is trust that complies.
In Hebrews chapter eleven we read of men and women of faith and in each case, it uses the phrase “by faith” and then is followed by what each one did to show that saving faith. No matter what we face in life we can trust God, his word and his will for us. It is our place to follow him and never be ashamed of him.
Heavenly Father I am so glad to be able to serve a God that is always truthful and therefore always trustworthy. Thank you for loving me with a love that I cannot comprehend. Fill me with your Spirit so I will be molded into your likeness and then overflow with your love, your compassion and forgiveness. Lord, you know the end before the beginning but it seems to me that our nation is in a time of great peril and I ask your blessing on us. I pray in the name of Christ Jesus my Lord.
