Daily Devotional: Psalms 126:1-6
Ps 126:1-6
1 When the LORD brought back the captives to Zion, we were like men who dreamed. 2 Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, "The LORD has done great things for them." 3 The LORD has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy. 4 Restore our fortunes, O LORD, like streams in the Negev. 5 Those who sow in tears will reap with songs of joy. 6 He who goes out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with him.
Col 1:10-14
10 And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, 11 being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully 12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. 13 For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
Israel was a family of slaves within the nation of Egypt. God delivered them by the hand of Moses and made a great nation from them. He promised to take care of them as long as they followed his commands. Because of their rebellion and sin they were taken captive by the Babylonians. Most of the nation lived in exile until God determined it was time for them to return to their land.
God brought them back and over a period of years they were allowed to rebuild Jerusalem and the temple. God was with them and blessed them so they grew into a nation of his people again. He often reminded them that they had been slaves and later captives but he had freed them to be his people.
We all were slaves of Satan at one time because we all have sinned. God provided a way of escape in the sacrifice of Jesus. Just as he loves his people of old, he loves all who are his in Christ. Because we have been freed from the captivity of sin, we owe him our allegiance in our lives. We praise Jesus our Savior!
Thank you, God for loving me. Thank you for giving me the opportunity of being your child. Help me always remember that I owe you my life because without you I am nothing. Lord, keep me from being selfish. One of the most valuable gifts you have given me is my time so motivate me to use it to your glory. Keep me from ever putting my trust in money or the things of this world. Help me love you and righteousness above all else. Make me a better person and use me in every relationship to honor you and help others. I pray in the name of Jesus.
