Daily Devotional: Psalms 132:1-10
Ps 132:1-10
1 O LORD remember David and all the hardships he endured. 2 He swore an oath to the LORD and made a vow to the Mighty one of Jacob: 3 "I will not enter my house or go to my bed--4 I will allow no sleep to my eyes, no slumber to my eyelids, 5 till I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty one of Jacob." 6 We heard it in Ephrathah, we came upon it in the fields of Jaar: 7 "Let us go to his dwelling place; let us worship at his footstool--8 arise, O LORD, and come to your resting place, you and the ark of your might. 9 May your priests be clothed with righteousness; may your saints sing for joy." 10 For the sake of David your servant, do not reject your anointed one.
1 Cor 6:18-20
18 Flee immorality. Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the immoral man sins against his own body. 19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? 20 For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.
1 Peter 3:14-15a
14 But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. "Do not fear what they fear; do not be frightened." 15 But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord.
Adam and Eve had a fellowship with God that we cannot imagine. God would come down and walk and talk with them in the garden. Later we are told that God would talk with Moses as a man talks with his friend. Abraham was called the friend of God and both he and David shared special relationships with him.
God made his presence known at the Mercy Seat in the Holy of Holies, first in the Tabernacle and later in the Temple built by Solomon. He would go with Israel into battle as they took the Ark as it represented his presence. But in all of this God let it be known that there is nothing on earth that can contain him or his glory.
Today, God and Christ dwell in us, in our bodies through the Holy Spirit. We are his temple. The church is also said to be the temple of God as he lives in us. For this reason, we are to honor God in all we do and glorify him in our lives.
Heavenly Father I am so weak and so small in so many ways and even in this I know you love me and that you live in me. While I cannot explain how you do all you do (or even who you are in your glory and majesty) your presence in me and in my heart is a blessing I cannot live without. Give me your wisdom and strength to live in a way that honors you and will lead others to you. At my best I need your constant forgiveness. I humbly pray in the name of Jesus my Lord.
