Daily Devotional: Psalms 144:11-15
Ps 144:11-15
11 Deliver me and rescue me from the hands of foreigners whose mouths are full of lies, whose right hands are deceitful. 12 Then our sons in their youth will be like well-nurtured plants, and our daughters will be like pillars carved to adorn a palace. 13 Our barns will be filled with every kind of provision. Our sheep will increase by thousands, by tens of thousands in our fields; 14 our oxen will draw heavy loads. There will be no breaching of walls, no going into captivity, no cry of distress in our streets. 15 Blessed are the people of whom this is true; blessed are the people whose God is the LORD.
Eph 6:16-18
16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.
When God made Adam, he said it was not good for man to be alone. Even God, who is above all creation and in that sense is alone, is not a loner. God is one but God is three. God created the heavenly hosts, the angels and all that comprises the spiritual realm. God created mankind so we can be with him in eternity.
As we seek to serve God, it is not his plan that we do it alone. Rather, we are children in the family of God, members of the body of Christ, stones in the temple of God, citizens in his kingdom or a part of his church. This is why we are told to not give up assembling with other Christians. We come together to worship and praise God but also to encourage, teach and build up each other.
This also gives us a measure of tangible accountability. When we fail to meet with the church, others see this and should be checking on us to be sure we are not sick or have other problems. Knowing that others care about us will encourage us to be more faithful in our service to God. This same principle is why James says we are to confess our faults to each other and pray for each other. As we fight the battle against sin and Satan, we are the army of God, fighting in his strength.
Heavenly Father I am sorry when I fail to be all you want me to be. Create in me a pure heart and a true spirit to seek to be like you in every way. Help me be more diligent to help others and encourage them to be all you want them to become also. Thank you for so many fellow Christians who encourage me in my walk with you. Help me study your word more and be filled with your righteousness so the things of this world will not allure me. Guide the leaders of our nation and other nations so we can serve you in peace. I pray in the name of Jesus my King.
