Daily Devotional: Psalms 149:5-9
Ps 149:5-9
5 Let the saints rejoice in this honor and sing for joy on their beds. 6 May the praise of God be in their mouths and a double-edged sword in their hands, 7 to inflict vengeance on the nations and punishment on the peoples, 8 to bind their kings with fetters, their nobles with shackles of iron, 9 to carry out the sentence written against them. This is the glory of all his saints. Praise the LORD.
Eph 6:16-18
16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.
After God created the world and mankind, Satan brought his battle against God and righteousness from the heavenly places to this earth. Since the beginning of time, he has used every device at his disposal to try to win the souls of any who will follow him in his deception. He promises a wonderful life, wisdom and great riches but actually gives broken hearts, and foolish and hateful strife which end in eternal death. Our battle is against him and his forces as we live for God.
When David led his armies to battle, his greatest weapon and his best strategy was his trust in God. He had learned this lesson when he killed the giant and he practiced it in every war and battle afterward. He knew that it was by the strength of God that victory would come and not his own wisdom or power.
Today, in our spiritual battle we must rely on God. Our greatest weapon is our faith, our total trust in God, his wisdom and his power. Based on this faith, our most urgent need is prayer. In one of the Psalms David said he prayed every morning, noon and night. We must be devoted to prayer as we trust God.
Based on our faith in God, we rely on his word for our instructions for life. God has given us his will for us, his wisdom for our lives and the many dangers that might befall us. This is why we are repeatedly warned to not be deceived. God offers peace and joy now with eternal life in glory. Praise the Lord!
Heavenly Father thank you for your love, your great wisdom and your grace that abounds beyond words to express. I wish my mind were capable of grasping just how great and how majestic you really are but it is beyond me. I long for a heart that could fathom your love shown in giving your Son so I can live with you. Fill me with your Spirit so I can love as you love. Increase my faith so I will trust you in everything and every part of my life. Lead me where you want me to be used in your service. Forgive me when I fail you. I pray in the name of Jesus.
