Daily Devotional: Psalms 3:1-8
Ps 3:1-8
1 O LORD, how many are my foes! How many rise up against me! 2 Many are saying of me, "God will not deliver him." Selah 3 But you are a shield around me, O LORD; you bestow glory on me and lift up my head. 4 To the LORD I cry aloud, and he answers me from his holy hill. Selah 5 I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the LORD sustains me. 6 I will not fear the tens of thousands drawn up against me on every side. 7 Arise, O LORD! Deliver me, O my God! Strike all my enemies on the jaw; break the teeth of the wicked. 8 From the LORD comes deliverance. May your blessing be on your people.
Matt 10:28-31
28 Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the one who can destroy both soul and body in hell. 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father. 30 And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 So don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
To be blessed of God does not mean we have no problems. David was a man after God’s own heart but he sinned at times and he had more problems than most of us can imagine. One such major issue was when his son, Absalom, decided he wanted to be king in his father’s place. He began courting the favor of the people and deceptively stole the hearts of many. He then announced he was king.
David and most his family fled from Jerusalem. It would be really hard to have people against you, who want to kill you. It would be even more difficult if it were one who was supposed to be your friend. Imagine if your own son rebelled and wanted to take your life and your throne! But David trusted the Lord.
Sin has consequences and David felt them in his life. But he always trusted God to protect him, sustain him and to deliver him in the end. Even when he despaired of life, he said if it were the will of God, he would die. His hope was not in this world or the things of this world. His hope was in God and what God has promised in eternity. No matter what we face in life or why we face it, when we trust God, he will protect us, sustain us and deliver us. Praise the Lord!
O Lord, my Lord and my God, I trust you with my life and want to give you my all in every way, every day. Help me remember that life has troubles. At times I fail and put my own desires and my own will ahead of you and your will for me so please increase my faith and in your mercy, forgive me. I ask you to place leaders in our country that will follow your will and guide this nation so that we can live in peace and continue to have the freedom to worship you. Give peace to those who are hurting in so many ways. I humbly pray in the name of Jesus my Lord.
