Daily Devotional: Psalms 7:10-13
Ps 7:10-13
10 My shield is God Most High, who saves the upright in heart. 11 God is a righteous judge, a God who expresses his wrath every day. 12 If he does not relent, he will sharpen his sword; he will bend and string his bow. 13 He has prepared his deadly weapons; he makes ready his flaming arrows.
Eph 6:15-18
16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.
When we refer to the “Lord” in our discussions, we are referring to the Holy Spirit, Christ, the Son of God as well as God the Father. This triune is referred to in the Bible as both he and they. This is our God and our Lord who created all things in his mighty power and has provided a way of salvation through Jesus our Savior.
The Lord is our armor as we do battle with Satan. He is our shield, our strength and provides all we need to overcome. We access our shield by faith, we battle with our sword as we use the word of God. It is the Spirit who gives us strength to withstand and to obtain the victory. With the Lord on our side we are assured the win because Jesus has already overcome Satan, sin and death for us.
Someone has said that as we study the book of Revelation we need to approach it with a brief summary. (1) There is a battle going on between God and Satan and God has already won. (2) We must choose a side. (3) Don’t be stupid. While there is a lot that is very difficult to understand in this book, even a casual reading bears out these points. We are to trust God and be faithful to him so we will be given white robes of righteousness as we live and reign with the Lord forever.
As we face our daily trials, we are to keep alert and always keep on praying for ourselves and for others who are also doing battle for God. He is able to give us strength and to do far more than we can think or imagine through the power of his Holy Spirit within us. We live in hope by faith in the Son of God who loves us.
Heavenly Father I stand in awe of your majesty, your power and your wisdom, all of which is beyond my ability to comprehend. As I study your majestic glory my mind is filled with your grandeur but is left wanting to know and to see you more fully. Increase my faith so I will be diligent to be approved by your grace and one day be with you and to see you in your complete radiance. Help me always love you first and show it in my life. Forgive and bless our leaders and our nation. Use me to help others serve you. I pray in the name of Jesus my Savior.
