Daily Devotional: Psalms 18:37-45

Ps 18:37-45

 

37 I pursued my enemies and overtook them; I did not turn back till they were destroyed. 38 I crushed them so that they could not rise; they fell beneath my feet. 39 You armed me with strength for battle; you made my adversaries bow at my feet. 40 You made my enemies turn their backs in flight, and I destroyed my foes. 41 They cried for help, but there was no one to save them--to the LORD, but he did not answer. 42 I beat them as fine as dust borne on the wind; I poured them out like mud in the streets. 43 You have delivered me from the attacks of the people; you have made me the head of nations; people I did not know are subject to me. 44 As soon as they hear me, they obey me; foreigners cringe before me. 45 They all lose heart; they come trembling from their strongholds.

 

Phil 4:12-13

 

12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13 I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

 

To be a great warrior for the Lord does not mean we engage in a physical battle because our battle is not against flesh and blood but against the power of Satan and his army. For us to be useful in the army of God means we are to be doing what he has assigned us to do. This may mean we are parents who follow his will and teach our children to do the same. Serving him means we are doing our best to be a loving husband or a respectful wife. It involves how we treat our parents or what we do on our job. We serve him as we serve our neighbors.

 

Living a godly life and showing others the joy in Jesus is a big part of the reason for being here. Serving God is facing the foe in faith, without doubting or giving in to the many temptations we face. We are to guard our lips that we speak only those things that will glorify God and build up those around us. We show forth his love in our attitude as we demonstrate kindness, patience and forgiveness.

 

No matter what we face in life, in the strength of Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit, we can overcome. We are more than conquerors in Jesus Christ our Lord.

 

Heavenly Father it is such a joy to be able to trust you in all things. Increase my faith so I will not fret or worry about the things of this life. Help me keep my eyes focused on Jesus and the things above so my priorities will be right as I seek first your kingdom and your righteousness instead of my fleshly desires. Please be with those who are sick, taking treatments and getting over surgeries and give them your strength, good health and most of all your peace as they trust in you. Use me to encourage and help them. I pray in the name of Jesus my Savior.
