Daily Devotional: Psalms 18:46-50

Ps 18:46-50

46 The LORD lives! Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be God my Savior! 47 He is the God who avenges me, who subdues nations under me, 48 who saves me from my enemies. You exalted me above my foes; from violent men you rescued me. 49 Therefore I will praise you among the nations, O LORD; I will sing praises to your name. 50 He gives his king great victories; he shows unfailing kindness to his anointed, to David and his descendants forever.

Rom 8:35-38

35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36 As it is written: "For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered." 37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

There are many statements in scripture that are so packed with power, wisdom and information that we cannot possibly grasp all they contain. In his ignorance and arrogance, Pilate asked Jesus if he did not know that he had power to release him or put him to death. Jesus responded by saying that the only power he had was what was given to him by God. Jesus, as deity, had made Pilate, had given him his position of authority and could easily take his life or all he possessed. He could have chosen to be in complete control but allowed Pilate and the rebellious Jewish leaders to have their day by torturing and hanging him on a cross.

But this cross came from a tree that he had created. Nothing was made that he had not made and sustains. He caused the thorns to grow that were made into a crown of mockery. It was he who caused the iron to be in the ground and gave wisdom for mankind to make the nails that pierced his hands and feet as well as the sword that tore his side. It was all his but was being used to put him to death.

Jesus did not regard equality with God something to be hung onto but emptied himself of all the glories of heaven to become one of us here on earth, then to suffer and to die for sin that he never committed. He became sin for us that we might become the righteousness of God in him. How can he who has done so much for us now not give us all thing in Jesus Christ our Lord? Praise the Lord!

Heavenly Father I am so thankful for your infinite wisdom in devising a way of salvation for me and all of mankind who will come to you in Jesus. Thank you for revealing your will to us in your word. Thank you for confirming your word in all of your creation that shows your wisdom, your power and your love. Never let me forget that all I have is from you and that it is to be used to honor you. Help me remember you are able to control all things. I pray in the name of Jesus.
