Daily Devotional: Psalms 19:7-11
Ps 19:7-11
7 The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul. The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the simple. 8 The precepts of the LORD are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the LORD are radiant, giving light to the eyes. 9 The fear of the LORD is pure, enduring forever. The ordinances of the LORD are sure and altogether righteous. 10 They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the comb. 11 By them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward.
2 Tim 3:14-17
14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, 15 and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
God is the creator of all things, including each of us. He is the giver of life and it is he who provides us with the necessities as well as an abundance to enjoy. But he did not make us, put us on the earth and then just leave us to guess what life is about, how to live it or any moral sense of direction. He has given us the written word that reveals his nature, our history, how to live in the present and how to decide for ourselves what will be our eternal destiny. He gives us all we need.
In doing this, he has given us knowledge we could not know otherwise. He gives us moral sensibilities to help direct us in our relationships with others. But he has also provided what we need to know for us to live up to that moral standard, so that we can be completely equipped for every good work he has for us to do.
But when we have done our best, we all sin. In his word we are told that even before he created all things, he knew we would turn from his way and sin. Since sin must be punished by death, he has graciously provided a way for us to be made righteous by the death of Jesus, his Son. His word reveals how we can be counted righteous so that we live in hope of eternity without fear of death.
I praise you O God, Father of light and life, creator and giver of all things. Thank you for giving us your all sufficient and inerrant word so I know how to live and can see my future destiny in Jesus Christ. I know I sin and do things I should not do or say things I should not say, even when I do my best to follow your will. I also put off or leave undone things I know I should be doing for you and for others. I need your constant forgiveness and thank you for providing it. Be with and bless our nation and our leaders as they rule. I pray in the name of Jesus.
