Daily Devotional: Psalms 25:1-7
Ps 25:1-7
1 To you, O LORD, I lift up my soul; 2 in you I trust, O my God. Do not let me be put to shame, nor let my enemies triumph over me. 3 No one whose hope is in you will ever be put to shame, but they will be put to shame who are treacherous without excuse. 4 Show me your ways, O LORD, teach me your paths; 5 guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long. 6 Remember, O LORD, your great mercy and love, for they are from of old. 7 Remember not the sins of my youth and my rebellious ways; according to your love remember me, for you are good, O LORD.
1 John 3:1-3
1 How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 2 Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. 3 Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure.
All day long we face trials in life. Every year brings new challenges and every day we are tempted to turn from God. Does he really care about us? Does he listen when we pray? Has he really changed anything in my life or helped me when I faced some disaster? How can I know he does, when I don’t see him or hear an audible voice speaking to me? Where is this God in whom we put our trust?
We live by faith and not by sight. It is not just in spiritual things but we live by faith in almost every part of our lives. We put our faith in our doctor, our spouse or in the airline pilot. We trust the other driver to stop at the light and to obey the other rules of safe driving. Faith is trusting that which we cannot see or hear.
The book of Psalms is unique in that it is written mostly in the singular person while other books of the Bible are plural. Take this to heart and read each passage and see your (my) relationship with God as my Lord, as my Savior and as my hope, my shield and my fortress. God hears me when I cry to him. God answers my plea when I call on him. He sees my enemies and he gives me strength. He is my God.
Heavenly Father help me understand that my relationship with you is about you and what you have done for me in Jesus Christ. Help me focus on my life and on my heart so I will live for you. Help me remember that what others do or say does not change my relationship with you so help me focus on growing my faith and trusting your strength in my life. I thank you for Jesus as my Savior, my Lord and as my friend. I thank you for your Spirit who molds me and seeks to comfort me and gives me wisdom and strength. I pray in the name of Jesus, your Son.
