Daily Devotional: Psalms 28:6-9
Ps 28:6-9
6 Praise be to the LORD, for he has heard my cry for mercy. 7 The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song. 8 The LORD is the strength of his people, a fortress of salvation for his anointed one. 9 Save your people and bless your inheritance; be their shepherd and carry them forever.
2 Tim 2:8-13
8 Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David. This is my gospel, 9 for which I am suffering even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But God's word is not chained. 10 Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory. 11 Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live with him; 12 if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us; 13 if we are faithless, he will remain faithful, for he cannot disown himself.
It is our choice to serve God or to refuse to acknowledge him as God. He will not force us to accept him or to accept the sacrifice of Jesus on our behalf. He offers his grace to all because Jesus died for all. God loved the world so much that he gave his special, one of a kind Son to die so that whoever believes in him will not perish but will have everlasting life. We are therefore urged to not receive the grace of God in vain but to accept his salvation. He wants all to be saved.
God is faithful because he cannot lie. Our lack of faith or our lack of remaining faithful to him does not change God. We are to die to sin as Christ died for us and then as he was raised to live, we are to live for him. This is referred to as walking in newness of life as a new creation in Christ. He lives in us and he is our life.
God has done and will do his part for us to be saved. It is now up to us to remain faithful. The reward of being faithful is far beyond any temporary pleasures that may lure us away from him on earth. To be with Christ and to reign with him in eternal glory is beyond our ability to comprehend. A life without pain or sickness, without death or sorrow but eternal peace with joy inexpressible and love.
Lord God, I just want to thank you for your wonderful love and your wisdom that makes it possible for me to be your child. Just when Satan thought he had won by killing your Son, you raised Jesus from the grave to defeat sin and death. I want to be just like Jesus in my thoughts and in my life but I know I fail to live up to his glory far too often and in so many ways. Increase my faith so I will be stronger to resist temptation and remain faithful in all things. Open my eyes to see every opportunity you provide for me to serve you. I pray in Jesus name.
