Daily Devotional: Psalms 29:1-11
Ps 29:1-11
1 Ascribe to the LORD, O mighty ones, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. 2 Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness. 3 The voice of the LORD is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the LORD thunders over the mighty waters. 4 The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is majestic. 5 The voice of the LORD breaks the cedars; the LORD breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon. 6 He makes Lebanon skip like a calf, Sirion like a young wild ox. 7 The voice of the LORD strikes with flashes of lightning. 8 The voice of the LORD shakes the desert; the LORD shakes the Desert of Kadesh. 9 The voice of the LORD twists the oaks and strips the forests bare. And in his temple all cry, "Glory!" 10 The LORD sits enthroned over the flood; the LORD is enthroned as King forever. 11 The LORD gives strength to his people; the LORD blesses his people with peace.
2 Thess 3:16
16 Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.
“You are not my boss!” How many times have we heard children say this (and maybe even adults in other words) because someone was telling them what to do or how to do it. Most people do not like to take orders or to be a servant. We like to think we control what we are doing and we control our own destiny.
Jesus gave up the glory of heaven to become a bondservant (a slave) for you and for me. He took the job of the lowest servant in a household, kneeling before his disciples, he washed their feet. He told them that they did not understand at the time but later it would make sense to them. Jesus was teaching them (and us) humility that puts the interest of others ahead of his own. He came to serve.
Jesus is Lord! Jesus is our King! He is our Savior, our constant companion, our brother and our friend. While we are to have a personal relationship with Jesus, we must never forget that he is Deity, the Son of the Living God. His name is holy and we are to reverence him by being submissive and obedient to him. He has called us to serve him by loving and serving each other. We belong to Jesus!
O Lord God, giver of life and creator of all things, I stand in awe as I consider your glory and the majesty of Jesus your Son. My heart is filled with gratitude for your love, your mercy and compassion and for your grace. Keep me from ever abusing your grace by sinning willfully or intentionally. Give me a servant heart so I will be willing to help others live for you. Keep me from ever looking down on anyone but instead, fill my heart with your compassion and mercy. Give me wisdom to know how to live each day to your glory. I pray in the name of Jesus my Lord.
