Daily Devotional: Psalms 33:1-5
Ps 33:1-5
1 Sing joyfully to the LORD, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise him. 2 Praise the LORD with the harp; make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre. 3 Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy. 4 For the word of the LORD is right and true; he is faithful in all he does. 5 The LORD loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of his unfailing love.
Col 3:15-17
15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. 17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
All through the ages, acting from ignorance and pride, mankind has sought to make gods in his or her own image. These gods are given various attributes of fallible human nature, with all of its weaknesses, sinfulness and limitations. Some have been represented by various physical idols while others are only ideological in nature but all fall far short of the God we read about and know in the Bible.
Our God is not beset with any evil or even tempted to do so. His nature is holy in every way, his wisdom is beyond searching out, his power is infinite with a motive that is always from a heart of love for his creation. We could compare the light of a candle to the light of the sun and even this would fall short of a comparison of God with the greatest of mankind. We serve an awesome and majestic God!
In his love for each of us, he has provided a way of salvation. It is not based on our ability to do good or even to please him with our righteousness. It is not based on our intellect or wisdom because these he has given to us. It is not based on our place in life, our power or success because he has provided the opportunities for us to attain these. His way of salvation is based on his grace and is embodied in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ, his Son and our Savior. We can accept his grace when we by faith, turn away from sin and to him and are then buried in baptism with him, raised up to walk a new life in him and for him.
Heavenly Father I am so thankful for your grace that makes it possible for me to be your child and to have the assurance of eternal life. Thank you for loving me so much that you gave your Son as an offering for my sin. Thank you for revealing your will to me in your word. Help me always remember that my ability to read and understand is a gift from you and not my own doing. Give me greater wisdom to use it in my life to help others and to your glory. I pray in Jesus name.
