Daily Devotional: Psalms 33:6-11
Ps 33:6-11
6 By the word of the LORD were the heavens made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth. 7 He gathers the waters of the sea into jars; he puts the deep into storehouses. 8 Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the people of the world revere him. 9 For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm. 10 The LORD foils the plans of the nations; he thwarts the purposes of the peoples. 11 But the plans of the LORD stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations.
Col 1:13-16
13 For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. 15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him.
God is love. The earth is full of his love. Where can one go and escape the love of God? It is all around us in every part of his creation. It is in the heart of the baby that is born in total innocence and depends on its mother for life. For most of us the greatest love we have ever known is the day we were wed or the birth of our child. In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and gave his Son as the substitute sacrifice for our sins. No greater love has ever been shown.
But we see the love of God as he controls the forces of nature. The movement of the heavenly bodies show his love and care for us as they regulate so many parts of our lives. So many things that exist have the ability to kill everyone of us but at the same time are necessary for our existence. This is the love of God.
Nations rise and nations fall. Great people think they are in control. Fools believe they can control the destiny and existence of the earth but it is all in the hand of God who made it and in Christ who sustains it. But this world is not our home. We are simply passing through for a short while as we journey to our eternal mansion that is being prepared for all who love the Lord more than this temporary abode.
Heavenly Father I am so thankful for your matchless love that is shown to me in every flower that blooms, in a snowflake that falls, in the bird that sings and in more ways that I can ever know. But more than all of this, I see your love in giving Jesus to die for my sin and in the revelation of your word so I can know you. I give your thanks for the promise of eternal life in Jesus. Give me wisdom to live for you and greater faith so I will always be faithful to you in every part of my life. Be with our nation and give wisdom to our leaders. I pray in the name of Jesus.
