Daily Devotional: Psalms 47:1-5
Ps 47:1-5
1 Clap your hands, all you nations; shout to God with cries of joy. 2 How awesome is the LORD Most High, the great King over all the earth! 3 He subdued nations under us, peoples under our feet. 4 He chose our inheritance for us, the pride of Jacob, whom he loved. Selah 5 God has ascended amid shouts of joy, the LORD amid the sounding of trumpets. 6 Sing praises to God, sing praises; sing praises to our King, sing praises. 7 For God is the King of all the earth; sing to him a psalm of praise. 8 God reigns over the nations; God is seated on his holy throne. 9 The nobles of the nations assemble as the people of the God of Abraham, for the kings of the earth belong to God; he is greatly exalted.
Col 1:19-20
19 For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.
What a joy to serve the Lord and to be a child of our God! Life is filled with many different problems and we all have our share – and at times, we feel we have more than our share. We face all kinds of temptations that want to take us away from the Lord and all too often we give in to some of these; maybe without even knowing we have sinned. As we see our awesome God in his glory, we humbly become more and more aware of his majesty and our own weakness.
But when we face trials and troubles in life, we know that Jesus is walking beside us and will always hold our hand. We know we have a Father who is watching us and will never leave us alone. He has promised to give us peace in turmoil, joy in sorrow and his grace in our times of need. He knows just what we need and will supply each of us with our own special, custom made solution. When we trust him and love him with all our heart, there is never a need for worry or anxiety.
He has promised to keep watch as we are being tempted and never allow us to be tempted in any way that is more than we can handle. Just to make sure, he will always provide a way for us to do what is right and not give in to sin. What most of us need most of all is more faith, greater trust in God and in his promises.
Heavenly Father increase my faith so that I live for you each day, all day, without any doubt that you love me and have forgiven me. Help me believe you when you say that you will provide my every need and that you will take care of every problem I face – in your way and in your time. Help me turn to you and trust you when I am tempted to do or say something that I should not. Give me courage to do what I know you want me to do in your service. Forgive me when I fail. Bless your church, your people, as we reflect Jesus to others. In his name I pray.
