Daily Devotional: Psalms 48:8-14
Ps 48:8-14
8 As we have heard, so have we seen in the city of the LORD Almighty, in the city of our God: God makes her secure forever. Selah 9 Within your temple, O God, we meditate on your unfailing love. 10 Like your name, O God, your praise reaches to the ends of the earth; your right hand is filled with righteousness. 11 Mount Zion rejoices, the villages of Judah are glad because of your judgments. 12 Walk about Zion, go around her, count her towers, 13 consider well her ramparts, view her citadels, that you may tell of them to the next generation. 14 For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end.
Eph 2:21-22
21 In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. 22 And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.
In the Old Testament, the temple of God was a place where the Jews could come and worship God. Some sacrifices were made in the temple courts and daily the priest would go into the Holy Place and offer the daily rituals. But the Presence of God was in the Most Holy Place where only the High Priest was allowed to enter once a year to make atonement for the people. The temple was where the people came to God to worship and God came to them to pardon and bless them.
The church is the dwelling of God today. We as his people are made into his holy temple where we meet and worship him. But this church is not an institution. It is the people of God, those who have been saved by the blood of Jesus. God lives in us and among us. Jesus is the cornerstone of the temple and it is inhabited by the Spirit of God. His glory is seen in us and among us as we live for him.
In the eternal home there will be no sun because God is the light. There will be no temple because he will be our temple. We will not come to some place or thing that represents God but into his actual presence. Jesus, our High Priest, has gone into this place on our behalf with the sacrifice of his blood. He is making all things ready for us to be with him as we inherit our eternal and glorious bodies. To him be all glory, both now and forever in heaven and on the earth! Praise the Lord!
Heavenly Father I am so thankful that you have revealed to us a glimpse of what you have prepared for us from before the foundation of the earth. I know that I cannot fathom your glory or your majesty but I see a small part of it in the sun in its radiance. I see your power in the waves of the ocean and in the mighty storms that rage. I see your beauty in the flowers that bloom and in the birds that sing. All you have made shows you are God, the creator and giver of life. Thank you for loving me and saving me by the blood of Jesus. I pray to you in his name.
