Daily Devotional: Psalms 56:7-13
Ps 56:7-13
7 On no account let them escape; in your anger, O God, bring down the nations. 8 Record my lament; list my tears on your scroll--are they not in your record? 9 Then my enemies will turn back when I call for help. By this I will know that God is for me. 10 In God, whose word I praise, in the LORD, whose word I praise--11 in God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? 12 I am under vows to you, O God; I will present my thank offerings to you. 13 For you have delivered me from death and my feet from stumbling, that I may walk before God in the light of life.
Heb 4:14-16
14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are-yet was without sin. 16 Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
We live in a time and culture when many (if not most) people have been raised to believe that God is just a part of man’s imagination and serves as a crutch for those who are too weak to handle life on their own. For these, god is created in their image and likeness. But God warned Israel that he is not like man with all of our frailties, weakness and limitations. So as mankind leaves God out of their lives and thinking, their lives become more evil and their existence becomes futile.
God is real! He is alive and is ever watching over his own. It is only in serving him that life has meaning and purpose. When we look at the world and the universe around us, we are forced (if rational) to accept the existence of intelligent design with power to make something from nothing. “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Our God is an awesome God and he loves us all.
Jesus gave his life for sin so we can live with him in glory. He is now our High Priest and is seated at the right hand of the Father making intercession for us. He has been one of us and therefore, he knows us, our problems and weaknesses.
Heavenly Father I come to you today with complete confidence that you will hear and answer my prayer. My confidence is not in myself but in the work of Jesus your Son and my Savior. So I also approach your throne of grace with humility because I see your majesty and my own frailties. Thank you for making me your child and for all you do for me every day. Give me wisdom and faith to live in a corrupt world in a way that honors you and your holy name. Use me in your way and in your time to serve those around me. I pray in the name of Jesus.
