Daily Devotional: Psalms 58:6-11
Ps 58:6-11
6 Break the teeth in their mouths, O God; tear out, O LORD, the fangs of the lions! 7 Let them vanish like water that flows away; when they draw the bow, let their arrows be blunted. 8 Like a slug melting away as it moves along, like a stillborn child, may they not see the sun. 9 Before your pots can feel the heat of the thorns--whether they be green or dry--the wicked will be swept away. 10 The righteous will be glad when they are avenged, when they bathe their feet in the blood of the wicked. 11 Then men will say, "Surely the righteous still are rewarded; surely there is a God who judges the earth."
Heb 13:15-16
15 Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise-the fruit of lips that confess his name. 16 And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.
“We live in a free country.” While we have many freedoms, we are also bound and controlled in many ways. “We can vote and decide who will govern us.” We do have the freedom to vote for our officials and we do make this decision by our elections but we must never forget that God is in control and there is no official that wins an election without his consent. But he allows us to go astray and make foolish decisions. However, he allows us to suffer the consequences also.
If we believe that we have the moral right to vote, it becomes a moral obligation for us to do so. If God uses his people to control who is elected, we must exercise our privilege to further his cause. However, the greatest influence we can have on the outcome of every election is our prayers. We as his children must be praying for our nation, our officials and therefore the elections.
Since God is in control, we have the moral obligation to respect and show respect for those who are our leaders. We must not participate in the bashing of officials just because we do not belong to their party or because we disagree with their philosophies. This is one of the ways we can stand out from the world around us when we do what is right. "Surely the righteous still are rewarded; surely there is a God who judges the earth." So we praise Jesus, our King eternal and our Lord.
Heavenly Father it is such a privilege and blessing to be born in a place where I can enjoy so many freedoms. Thank you for allowing our nation to exist and thank you for the many who formed our government and for those who gave their lives so that I can worship you as I understand you would have me do. Be with our leaders that they will look to you for wisdom. Be with your people that do not have the freedoms I enjoy. Give your blessings, your peace and your healing to those who are sick and taking treatments. I pray in the name of Jesus my King.
