Daily Devotional: Psalms 61:1-8
Ps 61:1-8
1 Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer. 2 From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I. 3 For you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the foe. 4 I long to dwell in your tent forever and take refuge in the shelter of your wings. Selah 5 For you have heard my vows, O God; you have given me the heritage of those who fear your name. 6 Increase the days of the king's life, his years for many generations. 7 May he be enthroned in God's presence forever; appoint your love and faithfulness to protect him. 8 Then will I ever sing praise to your name and fulfill my vows day after day.
Heb 12:22-24
22 But you have come to Mount Zion, to the heavenly Jerusalem, the city of the living God. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, 23 to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the judge of all men, to the spirits of righteous men made perfect, 24 to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.
What a joy to be in Jesus and to be a child of God! We have the assurance that he is with us and will protect us, no matter what we face. As a part of the family of God we have many brothers and sisters who care for us and on whom we know we can depend if or when it may be needed. God’s church is just a foretaste on earth of the glories and love to be shared in eternity. Paul refers to this as being in the heavenlies (or heavenly places) with Christ who is seated beside our God.
Since our priority is in heaven with Jesus, we don’t panic over the problems of this world. We are in the world and must deal with them but we know that God is in control and nothing can happen without his allowing it to do so. Even though all death and disease is the result of sin, Jesus overcame it all by his resurrection. It is his resurrection that guarantees us a new life when we leave this world, a new life with him in eternity and in a place that is beyond our imagination. There will be a new heaven and a new earth where there is no death, no disease, no sorrow and no crying. A place of unparalleled beauty, glory and splendor, in his presence.
Heavenly Father help me keep my eyes focused on you and on the things above where Jesus is seated at your right hand. Give me wisdom and empower me to be all you want me to become. Use me to serve you as I serve others. Forgive me when I fail to live up to your glory. Protect those who are being put in very hard circumstances because of the virus and provide their needs. I pray that the people of our nation will turn to you in this time. I pray in the name of Jesus.
