Daily Devotional: Psalms 64:6-10
Ps 64:6-10
6 They plot injustice and say, "We have devised a perfect plan!" Surely the mind and heart of man are cunning. 7 But God will shoot them with arrows; suddenly they will be struck down. 8 He will turn their own tongues against them and bring them to ruin; all who see them will shake their heads in scorn. 9 All mankind will fear; they will proclaim the works of God and ponder what he has done. 10 Let the righteous rejoice in the LORD and take refuge in him; let all the upright in heart praise him!
1 Peter 2:23-25
23 When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly. 24 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed. 25 For you were like sheep going astray, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.
The sign of our times is illustrated by the stock market. One day I checked it (why I don’t know) and it was up 600 points. A few hours later I looked again and it was down 400 and then closed almost a thousand off from the day before. On a good day it is up and then it goes down again. What a ride! For those who put their trust in their wealth, this uncertainty is huge and many panic because of it with some even committing suicide. Their lives consist of things and money.
Don’t get me wrong. I have my retirement fund and most of it is in the market but God is who gave it to me. If things go bad and then get worse, he can and will still take care of me and provide my needs. I don’t like to see my savings disappear either but that is not my life. Even in a virus world, God is still in control.
Our lives are to consist of bringing glory to God and honoring Jesus as our Lord and as our King. We are to use what we have to help others when we have the opportunity to do so. But there is nothing that others will notice quicker about us as Christians than if we have no fear in our crisis because we put our trust in God who has power over life and death. Praise God from whom all blessings flow.
Heavenly Father it is so good to be able to know you as my God and to know Jesus as my Savior, High Priest, friend and brother. What a blessing to be able to go to bed at night and know you are in control, even when the world is in a panic. Help me to reflect the love of Jesus in his glory to a world that does not know him. Use me to lead others to you. I ask your blessings on your children all over the world, many of whom are faced with so many trials and even persecutions. Give us all your peace as we put our trust in you. I humbly pray in the name of Jesus.
