Daily Devotional: Psalms 65:8-13
Ps 65:8-13
8 Those living far away fear your wonders; where morning dawns and evening fades you call forth songs of joy. 9 You care for the land and water it; you enrich it abundantly. The streams of God are filled with water to provide the people with grain, for so you have ordained it. 10 You drench its furrows and level its ridges; you soften it with showers and bless its crops. 11 You crown the year with your bounty, and your carts overflow with abundance. 12 The grasslands of the desert overflow; the hills are clothed with gladness. 13 The meadows are covered with flocks and the valleys are mantled with grain; they shout for joy and sing.
Acts 14:14-17
14 But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard of this, they tore their clothes and rushed out into the crowd, shouting: 15 "Men, why are you doing this? We too are only men, human like you. We are bringing you good news, telling you to turn from these worthless things to the living God, who made heaven and earth and sea and everything in them. 16 In the past, he let all nations go their own way. 17 Yet he has not left himself without testimony: He has shown kindness by giving you rain from heaven and crops in their seasons; he provides you with plenty of food and fills your hearts with joy."
What would be your reaction if I told you I saw God yesterday? If I said he walked along beside me and even held my hand, would you believe it? The fact is, I did see him, walked with him and talked with him. It was not a dream and it was not just my imagination. I saw God in his creation and I heard his voice in the thunder of a storm. He was there, near me as he has promised and he held my hand by faith and calmed my fears in the torrential rain and hail. Our God is wonderful!
In spite of all the evil and wickedness and even in the face of those who deny he is real he gives his rain and he gives his sunshine. God controls our world by the change in seasons, by the rain, by drought and even by pestilence and disease. He is showing himself to all mankind so that all are without excuse in their unbelief and rebellion. But most of all, he has shown himself to us in Jesus his Son.
Heavenly Father I am thankful for all you do for me every day. Thank you for your presence in all your creation. Even as I live in the midst of this pandemic, I know that Jesus is the great physician and heals physically, emotionally and most of all, he heals my spiritual sickness by taking away the guilt of all my sin. Thank you for the rain, for the sunshine, the flowers, trees and the birds that sing. I know there are so many of your children who are suffering much worse that any of us in this country and I ask you protect them. I gratefully pray in the name of Jesus.
