Daily Devotional: Psalms 68:21-27

Ps 68:21-27

21 Surely God will crush the heads of his enemies, the hairy crowns of those who go on in their sins. 22 The Lord says, "I will bring them from Bashan; I will bring them from the depths of the sea, 23 that you may plunge your feet in the blood of your foes, while the tongues of your dogs have their share." 24 Your procession has come into view, O God, the procession of my God and King into the sanctuary. 25 In front are the singers, after them the musicians; with them are the maidens playing tambourines. 26 Praise God in the great congregation; praise the LORD in the assembly of Israel. 27 There is the little tribe of Benjamin, leading them, there the great throng of Judah's princes, and there the princes of Zebulun and of Naphtali.

Heb 4:14-16

14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are-yet was without sin. 16 Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

We must never forget that Satan is the enemy of God and therefore all who seek to serve God are his enemies too. The comic character Pogo famously said “We have met the enemy and he is us.” James tells us that sins comes when we are enticed by our own desires but then we give in to them and we have sinned. We cannot and must not blame anyone other than ourselves when we sin.

But temptation comes in many and various forms. It may be a trial or it may be persecution or it may be pleasure and fun. It even comes to us in the priorities of our lives in things that are not wrong in themselves. But all sin originates in our minds and is then carried out in our flesh. So we must guard our thoughts and fill our minds with things that are right, wholesome, honest and good. This helps us overcome the doubt and fear that too often overtakes us. Thanksgiving is the best antidote for us to overcome depression as faith overcomes our worry. Pray often!

Heavenly Father I am thankful for your answer to so many prayers, both others and my own. There are those who have had successful surgeries recently and those who have had treatments to overcome cancers and you gave your healing to them. Thank you for giving joy and peace to those who are grieving. Give me wisdom to use what you have given me to your glory and to help those around me. Thank you for the technologies you have given us to use to spread your word. Be with your people wherever we are living. I pray in the name of Jesus.
