Daily Devotional: Psalms 69:1-5

Ps 69:1-5

1 Save me, O God, for the waters have come up to my neck. 2 I sink in the miry depths, where there is no foothold. I have come into the deep waters; the floods engulf me. 3 I am worn out calling for help; my throat is parched. My eyes fail, looking for my God. 4 Those who hate me without reason outnumber the hairs of my head; many are my enemies without cause, those who seek to destroy me. I am forced to restore what I did not steal. 5 You know my folly, O God; my guilt is not hidden from you.

2 Cor 11:13-15

13 For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, masquerading as apostles of Christ. 14 And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. 15 It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.

Since Eve ate the forbidden fruit in the Garden and gave to her husband and he ate it, every person has sinned against God. This is just the visible result of Satan and his work in mankind. It was the devil that tempted Eve and it was the devil that encouraged Adam to eat, in spite of knowing that God said it was wrong. We are tempted to do things by deception or by just going along with the crowd. It is easy to do wrong because we are encouraged to reject God on every hand.

David was a man after God’s own heart and he did wrong at times. But his life was characterized by a life of faithful and obedient service to God. The Hebrew writer says that Moses was faithful in all his house. By faith Noah built an ark in a time when everyone else around him was evil in all they did and said. Try to imagine the ridicule he must have endured while patiently obeying God.

It seems there have always been more who would disobey God than those who would obey and help others follow them. Being faithful is not being perfect. It is devoting our life to Christ and then seeking to be like him in all we do. Other than Jesus, the only one I know of who is held up as being faithful that we don’t have their sin disclosed is Enoch. And his life is summed up in that he walked with God.

Heavenly Father help me be stronger in my faith so you will say of me that I walked with Jesus every day. Hold my hand and keep me close to you so my heart will be devoted to you more and more each day of my life. As we face this time of our nation in fighting the COVID-19, give me greater faith to not worry or panic but to feel the assurance that you are in control. In your time and in your way, give healing and stop the virus. Give wisdom to our leaders, political and medical. Be with and protect those who are in daily contact with the virus. Thank you for taking care of me and my family. I humbly pray in the name of Jesus.
