Daily Devotional: Psalms 74:1-8

Ps 74:1-8

1 Why have you rejected us forever, O God? Why does your anger smolder against the sheep of your pasture? 2 Remember the people you purchased of old, the tribe of your inheritance, whom you redeemed--Mount Zion, where you dwelt. 3 Turn your steps toward these everlasting ruins, all this destruction the enemy has brought on the sanctuary. 4 Your foes roared in the place where you met with us; they set up their standards as signs. 5 They behaved like men wielding axes to cut through a thicket of trees. 6 They smashed all the carved paneling with their axes and hatchets. 7 They burned your sanctuary to the ground; they defiled the dwelling place of your Name. 8 They said in their hearts, "We will crush them completely!" They burned every place where God was worshiped in the land.

2 Cor 9:13-15

13 Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, men will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else. 14 And in their prayers for you their hearts will go out to you, because of the surpassing grace God has given you. 15 Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!

We, as the children of God, have so much for which to be thankful. We live in a world that is filled with beauty and shows us the power of God in so many ways every day of our lives. There is no virus that can take away the beauty of the sunset that is painted across the horizon. No pandemic can annul the promise of God that is shown to us in the rainbow that stretches across his canvass of sky.

The storms have come and remind us of his power but also of his love for us as he limits the destruction that follows. We see the ocean wave as it roars toward the beach, and then abruptly stops with as much force as it was pounding forward before. The heat and the energy of the sun reminds us of his power that put all of this into existence. The moon and the stars shows us his ever-seeing eye.

What a joy to be a child of God. What a blessing to have Jesus as our friend, our High Priest and our Savior. What peace we enjoy because of the promises of God who loves us and takes care of us. Praise the Lord for he is glorious and gracious!

Father and God, I am thankful for the provisions you have made for me to be your child in Jesus Christ. I realize I am far from being perfect and fail so much to live up to your glory but I praise you for your mercy that gives me forgiveness by your grace. Thank you for so many fellow Christians who encourage me in so many ways – even those whom I have never personally met. Use me and my life to be an encouragement to others who are serving you. I pray in the name of Jesus.
