Daily Devotional: Psalms 74:9-14

Ps 74:9-14

9 We are given no miraculous signs; no prophets are left, and none of us knows how long this will be. 10 How long will the enemy mock you, O God? Will the foe revile your name forever? 11 Why do you hold back your hand, your right hand? Take it from the folds of your garment and destroy them! 12 But you, O God, are my king from of old; you bring salvation upon the earth. 13 It was you who split open the sea by your power; you broke the heads of the monster in the waters. 14 It was you who crushed the heads of Leviathan and gave him as food to the creatures of the desert.

Heb 10:35-11:1

35 So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. 36 You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. 37 For in just a very little while, "He who is coming will come and will not delay. 38 But my righteous one will live by faith. And if he shrinks back, I will not be pleased with him." 39 But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who believe and are saved. 11:1 Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.

During this time of pandemic it is easy for us to focus on the news of how many are sick and how many are dying each day. The news will have multiple articles which detail the movement of the virus by nation, state, county and even by metropolitan areas. This is a tool of Satan to fill our minds with doubt and with fear which will distract us from the goodness of God and his blessings.

I am not suggesting that we not take Covid-19 seriously. It is a terrible disease and we must do our part to use caution and practice the many methods of protecting ourselves and those around us. But if we become paranoid and totally seclude ourselves in fear, are we not showing our lack of trust in God and saying that the virus is beyond his power to control? He can use even this for our good.

We are to focus on Jesus Christ and in so doing we will think on things that are good and wholesome. We will find reasons to multiply our thanksgiving for what we have and his care over us. Nothing will attract others to Jesus more than our trust in him and the resulting joy and peace of mind during this pandemic. Amen!

Heavenly Father I am so thankful that you are in control of all things. Thank you for the many ways you show your love to me every day. Help me keep my mind focused on Jesus and on your goodness. Use me to encourage others and to lead someone to Christ by the way I live. I pray for your Spirit to convict those who do not trust you and to bolster my faith and that of those who do trust you. Guide the leaders of our nation to do your will. I pray in the name of Jesus.
