Daily Devotional: Psalms 75:1-5
Ps 75:1-5
1 We give thanks to you, O God, we give thanks, for your Name is near; men tell of your wonderful deeds. 2 You say, "I choose the appointed time; it is I who judge uprightly. 3 When the earth and all its people quake, it is I who hold its pillars firm. Selah 4 To the arrogant I say, 'Boast no more,' and to the wicked, 'Do not lift up your horns. 5 Do not lift your horns against heaven; do not speak with outstretched neck.'"
2 Peter 3:3-7
3 First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. 4 They will say, "Where is this 'coming' he promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation." 5 But they deliberately forget that long ago by God's word the heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water and by water. 6 By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. 7 By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.
Where is God in our pandemic? Why are so many people suffering and so many dying? Does he know? Does he care? We live in such a selfish society and we have been pandered so much that we have come to believe that everything must go our way and when we have a problem, relief must come instantly. The concepts of patience and trust in the wisdom of God seem to be lost by so many.
During the days of Noah there was warning given to the masses of people. All but the family of Noah rejected these warnings from God because they seemed to be the babblings of a fool. We have no record of rain ever falling before the flood so when Noah said it would rain, they mocked him and dismissed his teaching. But the rain did come and not only did it come but it kept raining until the scoffers were all destroyed in the flood that covered the earth. God was proven right.
We live in troubled times and many are mocking the teaching and the warnings from God. Life is short and we will all stand before the judgment seat of God who gives us life and breathe. In the time we have, we must trust and obey him.
O Lord, Father and God, I come to you in simple faith. I freely admit that I do not know your mind or what you have planned. While you have revealed so much of yourself and your nature to me in your word, I still cannot begin to fathom your majesty and your glory. I have friends who are sick and some are suffering, so I ask you to please give them your healing. If this is not your will for them, give them your peace as they trust in you. I thank you for so many fellow Christians who are a constant help to me and to others. I pray in the name of Jesus.
