Daily Devotional: Psalms 77:16-20
Ps 77:16-20
16 The waters saw you, O God, the waters saw you and writhed; the very depths were convulsed. 17 The clouds poured down water, the skies resounded with thunder; your arrows flashed back and forth. 18 Your thunder was heard in the whirlwind, your lightning lit up the world; the earth trembled and quaked. 19 Your path led through the sea, your way through the mighty waters, though your footprints were not seen. 20 You led your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.
Rev 9:20-21
20 The rest of mankind that were not killed by these plagues still did not repent of the work of their hands; they did not stop worshiping demons, and idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone and wood-idols that cannot see or hear or walk. 21 Nor did they repent of their murders, their magic arts, their sexual immorality or their thefts.
The fool has said in his heart that there is no God. We face life every day and we see all the things around us but seldom consider their origin. Yet everything that exists screams the reality of God who made it all. The path of the sun and the precise movement of the stars show forth intelligent design and demand wisdom behind it all. The inter-workings of the human body are still being discovered and amaze the greatest of minds. They are without excuse who deny God.
But in his wisdom and power, he is still filled with mercy, compassion and love for all of his creation. He feeds the birds and he clothes the grass with flowers. He sends his rain on the just and the unjust and he protects each creature with its own special kinds of defenses. How much more does he show his love and his concern for you and me. In his love for us he makes possible eternal life.
Through his Son he teaches us humility with confidence. He shows us love for others but with a hatred for sin. He has demonstrated grace to a world that is filled with self-will and egotism and one that rejects his will. But by faith in Jesus we can have every transgression wiped clean from our record as we submit to him and humbly obey his gospel. What a glorious Savior, Jesus our Lord!
Heavenly Father I am thankful for your love shown to me in Jesus Christ. Help me want to live for you and turn from every sin in my life. Give me greater faith, more conviction to be like Jesus and more self-control to be all you want me to become in every part of my life. I need your wisdom every day as I endeavor to grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus my Lord. Be with your people all over the world as we seek to serve you and lead others to you. Give us a greater desire to show your love as we seek to reach the lost. I pray in the name of Jesus my Savior.
